Sam Koltun’s ACC English 3 Scribe notes

A Day in the Life of the Period 4 English Class

“Now that Max is here we can now stand and begin.” With that we started our class with the usual prayer, the Hail Mary and Glory be. Joe Siegel had to go to the office because his mom was locked out of their house. Maddy went up to the dreadful front of the room to read her scribe notes, when Mrs. Gill exclaims “way to break things!” What a fun way to start the class!

As Maddy read her scribe notes, which consisted of our writing suggestions for Jake, Mrs. Gill was glad that Jake wasn’t there to defend himself. Since Chris Primo gave us a wonderful in-depth presentation, we don’t have to write a personification paper for our values. Mrs. Gill remembered that there will be homework- everyone moans.

Mrs. Gill talked about 70’s haircuts again while showing us a video about teens and high school assigned reading. The video showed how many kids don’t read and how many teens just simply use spark notes and class discussions to get by. Mrs. Gill’s solution: Let kids choose their books.

CAUTION: We are about to embark on some unpleasant reading. Mrs. Gill encouraged us to find a way to read the books, even if they are incredibly boring. We need to let the authors build visual images from scratch in our minds. We then talked about the worst books that we have had to read in high school thus far, which turned out to be Tale of Two Cities and Bridge of San Luis Rey.

Journal prompt- High school reading- What is your approach to high school English assigned reading? What Factors influence your decision to read or not to read an assigned book? The song was When I’m gone (Clean Version) by Eminem. Tyler wrote about how he would always read the books, even if they were boring, because he wanted to get a good grade. Abby read next, saying that she likes reading the book assigned- doesn’t want to cheat herself out of a grade. She likes to be prepared for reading quizzes. Kayla then reads about how she wants to good grades on her reading assignments. Frankie read about how he usually toughs it out in order to get a good grade. See something in common here?

Mrs. Gill said that she doesn’t have sympathy for middle school kids, as she assigned us a podcasting assignment---This I believe (On Edline). The podcast will be graded as an oral performance. We were given a pre-writing sheet that will help us to choose the belief that will be the subject in piece. Mrs. Gill then had us listen to a podcast as an example.

HOMEWORK: “Script it”- 300 – 500 words (about a page). We must come in with a script we can work with tomorrow (today 9/14).

Yes, the fish is still alive.
