After reading Soldier's Home, discuss how warfare changes soldiers mentally. Use examples from the story to back up your answer. If you disagree with how warfare changes soldiers mentally, then explain why you think this is so.
After reading “Soldier’s Home,” I really learned more about how war effects soldier’s mentally. I always knew that soldiers usually had mental problems after the war usually in the form of PTSD or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder but there can be more to it than that, and I found some examples of it in the story. In the story, Krebs before the war was a great older brother who loved to spend time with his sister and after the War, he doesn’t really care about his sister’s life anymore, all he wants to do is sit and mope on his porch. Also it makes him feel like he can’t love anyone as he says to his mother, “I don’t love you because I can’t anymore.” That’s really how a war can affect a soldier, it can ruin their social graces and it can also have a big impact on how the soldiers react and think about different things.
