I believe the Rip Van Winkle is a satire because in the story, the author attacks the way Rip acts with the town compared to the way he acts with his family Tim Smith
I think that Rip Van Winkle is a satire. The story itself is very ironic. The plot is not as ironic as the actual character of Rip Van Winkle. His family feels hatred towards him while the rest of the town respects him greatly. He is a good-natured man when around those who are not with him constantly. When he wakes up, his son is exactly like him; another ironic element of the story.
