Rip van Winkle reflects characteristics of romantic literature in a variety of ways. The first of which is that there is a change through nature that represents purity and morality in the forest where Rip slept and that it hadn’t changed much except for some man made additions. There were some elements of magic like when he met the ghost crew of the explorer who founded the territory. There is also some magic about the fact that he slept for twenty years in the forest through every season and the only real change was aging and awoke un-harmed and confused.
