I personally am not a fan of the n-word however, this word provides a historical background and value that without this word would not be understood -Emily Rosenstein

I don’t necessarily agree with the use of the n word. I don’t think that it should really be used in the school environment. In a novel like Huckleberry Finn, the use of the n word was common to that period of time. All of it is such a big part of history. Everything from the writing of the novel itself, to the blatant use of the n word, it’s all history. It’s all important to what kind of people and what kind of society we are today. It was used frequently (as you can tell) in that time period. It was an important part of our nation’s past. It shows how far we’ve come as a society. I think the n word should stay. It shouldn’t be brought into the school environment. --- Sam Koltun

Joe Lawrence-My opinion on using the N-word in literature is that it is acceptable. By removing it creates a problem in the fact that we are taking away from the literature. We are taking away from what the author intended and wanted the audience to experience. In this particular instance in Huckleberry Finn, the author is intending to show you what history is like back then and takign the n-word out is taking away from the historical content of the book. So when asked how I feel about the n-word in literature I believe it should be left alone
