A no good, very bad day

Mrs. Gill was cranky today, as a result of having forgotten her computer at home, with all her files, including our test. Instead of humbly apologizing for her carelessness, she meanly refused to acknowledge our concerns, and instead confiscated people's drinks and spilled coffee on the floor.

She was on her hands and knees wiping up a smelly mess for the rest of the period. Serves her right. The last page of the test was eliminated, compensating for the time it took for our teacher to get her act together.

Hopefully, everyone's grades will be good, and Mrs. Gill will come to school in a better mood tomorrow, with her computer.

            Class, as usual, started with a prayer.  After the prayer I was notified by Mrs. Gill that I was the scribe today.  She then continued by telling me I should sit where she moved Nikolai to, I am insulted.  The people who finished the extra credit over break turn it in and like usual there are excuses.  Michelle says her email doesn’t work and Blake can’t get the extra credit off of his computer for reasons unknown.  We then continue our journal writing assignment and write to the song “Bless the Broken Road” by Rascal Flatts.

            After journaling we are notified that the college credit inspectors are visiting but they are visiting the other class unfortunately.  Mrs. Gill tells us that she told the people to visit our class but maybe she just doesn’t want to hurt our feelings and secretly likes the other class better.  We are assured that this is not the case when she then explains to us that both classes have the same amount of awesomeness.

            Our objective for the day was to prepare for the Scarlet Letter test for tomorrow.  While doing so we go over the topics on the document sent to us by Mrs. Gill through Dyknow and she tells us that the best way to prepare is to review the book.  Finally, we discuss our newest unit which will be a biography over our American author that we picked for summer reading.

We started class off with the usual prayer. After that Mrs. Gill collected the extra credit from over Thanksgiving break. We didn't have any scribe notes to read over from last Friday because Mrs. Gill didn't find it necessary to do them. From there, we continued to work on our journal entries, while listening to a song by Eminem. After we finished with our journals, Mrs. Gill passed back our vocab quiz and a Scarlet Letter quiz. Mrs. Gill then began to explain that we will have a college professor visiting to evaluate the class. The class took a vote on when to take the "Scarlet Letter" test. It was decided that we take the test tomorrow. A document was sent out through Dyknow containing topics that should be reviewed concerning the Scarlet Letter. As we finished up with the review, another productive class came to an end.

Kelly O'Brien's Scribe Notes for Period 2 Acc English

            I walk in and hear Mrs. Gill saying that we are doing the analysis in class. This makes me, along with other people, freak out a little. Turns out Mrs. Gill was just kidding. We are really doing the analysis for homework tonight.

            Zack reads his scribe notes. Then, Mrs. Gill tells us to take out our keyboards. We all assume that this means take out our laptops. Our journal is called invention. We are supposed to write one to two sentences on the purpose of our writing piece. Mrs. Gill asks for someone to suggest a song. Nick suggests Like a Stone by Audioslave. However, Mrs. Gill thinks it is called Like a Slave. Jeffrey then says something inappropriate, which I won’t repeat.

            Mrs. Gill sends everyone the analysis prompt through DyKnow, but she sends us the wrong paper. She then resends the right paper. The analysis is supposed to be on how Hawthorne reveals the character of Roger Chillingworth through diction, allusion, irony, and metaphors.

            Annie then begins to make excuses as to why she can’t bring her laptop with her on vacation. Other people start making excuses too. Blake says that his charger won’t work. Nick says that he is possessed by Satan. It’s about time to go, and I’m kind of relieved because after Nick’s comment I’m kind of scared of what excuses might come up.

God I Hope This Works... 11/21/11 Scribe Notes

Today we started class with a prayer like always, and Mrs. Gill realized that Nick and Drew are gone. After that, when we decided the scribe was me (it should ‘a been Kelly) class sort of began.  Mrs. Gill tried her best to find Kara’s scribe notes from last week, and once she did Kara went up to the front of the class and read them.  Everyone looked extremely interested during Kara’s reading, Jeff was busy chewing his nails, I think Michael was asleep…  Someone is using strategy for something.  Now Mrs. Gill is talking about comma rules, and Kelly is drowning out her comments by asking me who is scribe… It’s obviously me, since I’m sitting here typing out scribe notes.  COMMA DODGE BALL??? But it isn’t really dodge ball.  Now Mrs. Gill is saying Streetlight Manifesto is loud and obnoxious, I no longer like this class.

Instead of journaling, we have to take a previously written journal and turn it into an excellently written paper.  We could say pain has something to do with the sun, and something about points and skin cancer.  There seem to be some essay possibility, and most will fall under fiction, personal, or impersonal essays.  And poetry, but who writes that stuff?  Length is not an issue, but it should be 2 – 3 pages MLA style, which sounds like a length requirement to me.  It needs to be perfect.  Well that should be easy for me but I don’t think there are too many other perfect people in here.  After leaving the class to talk to Mr. Grasser, I return to talk of how important personal essays are.  During journaling, everyone is typing furiously but me…  I wish I knew what we were supposed to be typing about.  They were typing to some mellow song that I can’t remember the name of.

We get Wednesday to write our literary analysis essay, but Mrs. Gill decides we can take it home.  Now she wants to go over it with us and help us with writing it.  She shows us a passage from chapter 5 of The Scarlet Letter, and a prompt below it about how Hawthorne depicts Hester’s state of inner turmoil and how he shows it with types of writing like: Diction which is how something is worded, figurative language which is like non-literal types of language, syntax means word order, and we went over irony and tone last week.  Michael and Jeff are moving their heads at each other and laughing… Maybe Jeff is stealing Michael’s soul or something like that.  The chief criteria for annotating is annotate what you notice.  Man this scarlet letter stuff is complicated.  I’m not sure if I should be writing this down or not…  Hopefully not.  Jeff wants to know if this passage is the only source we will use, and it is.  What is the nature of Hester’s turmoil?  It is that she is both regretful of what she has done, but is also wistful about it, and she feels the need to be near the one she loves.  Now Mrs. Gill proves spends a few minutes trying to find some document while Roman awkwardly walks… no skips in and flies over a few desks to land in the one in front of me. 

As the class comes to a close, Mrs. Gill explains comparisons of snakes and Hawthorne, while sending us a couple documents (that she is still having issues finding).  She fails to find the documents, but promises to put ‘em on edline. No homework! (Except for me)

A Look at the ACC English 3 Class

This is a Look at the ACC English 3 class… (From a hipster’s point of view)

Class started out on a good note today, for once they changed it up and had prayer over the intercom, I love when they experiment with new means to convey the lord, having a single person say it out loud is sooo overdone.

Then Anne read her scribe notes. I was disappointed, she took many of her jokes from “Marcel the Shell with shoes on." So it would have been a lot better if she came up with her own jokes.

Then Mrs. Gill’s phone rang and we heard a very jazzy sounding ringtone. Hopefully it was some local jazz band, I dig local music. She said it was from one of her children’s schools. Then, after that minor interruption, class continued.

The class then started to labor on their Literacy Analysis.  This assignment entailed expanding one of our current journal entries, or making up a whole new topic and writing about it. Mrs. Gill then said it could be in 3 different forms of composition, a dissertation, a tale, or a composition that may employ rhyming or poetry in laymen’s terms.

We then started to work on our compositions, to the song, “Point/Counterpoint” by Streetlight Manifesto. Despite hearing complaints from Libby and getting a glare and an angry point of the finger from Joe, I still feel it is a good song. Honestly, how can someone not like this song? Its a complex, multi-layerd, genre mixing song, and a work of art, which was lost on Libby and Joe. I guess they just don't seem to get it. Hopefully Mrs. Gill will continue to play good music instead of that modern garbage that the hoi polloi or peasants listen to. Maybe some indie music because indie music is the greatest form of music ever. 

Then Mrs. Gill polled the class on what they thought of The Scarlet Letter. I honestly didn’t like the book because it reminded me of the cliche ridden pop book A Tale of Two Cities, and because I don't enjoy Nathanial Hawthorne’s writing style.I found the book to be an black hole of evil that sucks the joy out of the soul. all that is good in the world.  I saw a few people give it a four out of four, and lots of two’s and three’s but I didn’t see anyone but me give it a one. I did this because I didn't want to relinquish hipster clout by following suit.

Soon, the class began to complain about having work assigned this week because many of the class felt it was pointless to having school this week. So Mrs. Gill took it upon herself to rant about how she doesn’t like how Kennedy handles makeup work.

Lastly, Mrs. Gill said we would have an essay to do in class tomorrow despite having shorter classes. Mrs. Gill needs to mix it up with giving essays. It's getting quite old having to write essays during short classes. She said she would put the topic of this essay on Edline for the class to look at later.

Finally class was over, so I could listen to some Neutral Milk Hotel.

The teacher starts class with a prayer. Oh No! Katy spreads rumors that there will be no WORD BOX on the vocabulary quiz!

Mrs. Gill switches things up and gives the test at the beginning of the shortened, 43 minute class.

She throws a curve ball by giving us the test at the beginning of class, so we don’t take all 43 minutes of the shortened class to take the quiz.

Mrs. Gill forgets Hannah’s even in the class anymore. (which she isn’t, she’s sick) and Cody is missing as well.

One time I sniffed a fleck of pepper and I sneezed so hard I sneezed a hundred times a day for a month.

Maddie wants to wash the board, even though the messy board is her (and Kline-ye West’s) fault in the first place.

The test was relatively easy, although if you didn’t know your words, for all intensive purposes, yesterday was not your lucky day

Mrs. Gill learns her first lesson, to give the tests/quizzes at the beginning of class, as not to stress out her students even more.

It’s relatively quiet, Libby keeps asking Anne physics questions. I don’t know why she asks her…she’s not much help

She’s my friend you know. We eat lettuce together sometimes. One time I nibbled on a piece of cheese and my cholesterol went up to 900.

One Very Fun Day in ACC English 11/18/11

We starting class when the speaker came on and Mr. Chio said the morning prayer.  After this Mrs. Gill asked us if she had given our journals back yesterday, and was confused when we all said no,  I look at the stack of journals in the front of the room and start to worry when I don’t see mine up there.  She then told us that she will give them back tomorrow since she left them at home.  Drew then read his scribe notes.  After this Mrs. Gill tried to look for scribe notes from the past that we hadn’t read but she couldn’t find any.  She thought that the Santa scribe notes were Kristen.  I heard Kristen wonder why everyone thinks that she is the Santa Scribe.  Andrew the read his scribe notes from some past day that we all remember as being really funny. 

Mrs. Gill tells us that she thinks we are going to play Pictionary and everyone starts to get a little loud.  Someone asks if we can use our computers so that we know the words, I hear Michael comment something about this being good because there was no way he wasn’t going to remember all of the words.  I overhear Michael and Kelly talking about someone being 10 months pregnant but Kelly corrects him saying that that would be impossible.  The team names for Pictionary are Dirty Mike &the Boys and Team with no Gingerzzz.  Nick claims the prize for winning today was Joe Lawrence’s ID card.   We start the game by Mrs. Gill reading a definition and whoever answered it right got their team to go first, Emily answers it right so Team With no Gingerzzz goes first. Mrs. Gill tells us that we have one minuet to draw the picture.  We are about to actually start the game and Mrs. Gill decides that the person drawing should get to see the definition before they draw.

After this round Mrs. Gill is going to change the time limit that we have to draw the picture, 30 seconds.  Kristin got the first one right for Team with No Gingerzzz.  Blake surprisingly got the first one right for Dirty Mike and the Boys.  Dirty Mike and the Boys found a strategy for the game, by writing a circle for a noun, square for an adj, triangle for a verb. I overhear Team with no Gingerzzz them talking about a strategy to write the number of the word on the board, but I hope they know they can’t write numbers on the board.  The first time Dirty Mike and the Boys try this strategy Nick writes a C in the circle to help us find out that the word was Cadence, I don’t think Mrs. Gill saw because the rules are that you can’t write letters on the board.  Kristen tells her team to make a lot of noise so that Dirty Mike and the Boys can’t think.  Class sadly ends and everyone wishes they could stay a little bit longer instead of going to their next class.

ACC English 3 11/17/11

A Reminder of ACC English 3 Class

Today is a shortened day due to clubs. We started off the day with the usual prayers…. Mrs. Gill remembered the third one! After that Mrs. Gill told us about how we were going to have an ongoing assignment that would take place during the normal journal time. It would be to expand on one of our entries into a publishable piece of work and that there would be many different ways that this could be done. Mrs. Gill spent a lot of time commenting on how we had some great poets in the class and that she would not be surprised to see some in that form. She also commented that a lot of people wrote in prose but had a very poetic flow. Today we also got to witness what I believe is the first ever joint scribe notes done by Libby and Kayla. They were very detailed but at some points off topic. We spent the rest of class playing Pictionary which was a lot of fun because very few of us were good drawers. The left side of the room (Disney Domination Taco Ponchos) won at the last minute with a point from Max.

An Interesting Day in the ACC English 3 Per. 2 Class

November 14, 2011

          Why hello there and welcome to the ACC English 3 Per. 2 class. Who am I you ask? Well that is none of your business. I’m just kidding, I am the watchman of this room. No one can see me however because I am invisible. I always take a look at what is going on in this class and then I report it to you people for some unknown reason. I will begin with how today started.

          Today started with its usual prayer because that is what Catholics do, they pray. The children had been waiting for Mrs. Gill to pull up the next vocab sheet which everyone was quite excited about (not really). While she was getting it ready I heard the one called Michael Klein talk about losing his eyebrows on stage in the middle of the Alice and Wonderland performance. Mrs. Gill had told the one named Andrew that he is the scribe today, but I figured he wouldn’t be able to keep up with the notes since he is so lazy, so I decided to write them down. All of the sudden there had been a noise coming from the room and Mrs. Gill saw that it was Nick. She asked him what he was griping about and Nick was complaining how he got a 60 on his history test and everyone else received a 93 or higher. Mrs. Gill then proceeded to talk to the other Michael and ask him what his nick name is. He said it was M Dog. The students then try to proceed with getting the scribe notes to post to the blog.

          After that Mrs. Gill went on to say that the one corner in the far right corner of the room is very troubling. Matt had then accused some people of laughing at him and Kristen denies it as she and Michelle burst out laughing. Michael then told the one named Andrew of his weekend with Jeffery doing things while driving past the cops in Michael’s car. Michael had then proceeded to spin his head in a circular motion until he was dizzy. Honestly I worry about this child.

          Mrs. Gill finally got the document ready to send out to everyone through DYKNOW, except the students were all waiting on Jennifer. Tisk Tisk. The document appeared and it seemed as though the scribe notes I had been typing out disappeared, but they just shrank instead. Michael and Joseph then started singing across the room, today has been very strange so far. Nick had noticed that the vocab document had the word AIDS on it which made the document more fun. Very mature Nick. Michael had been typing frantically on his computer to try to prove a point to Matt but Michael had not realized that the document had already appeared and Michael was typing all over it. This is what happens when you do not pay attention dear Michael.

          Mrs. Gill then began to hand back the vocab quizzes and Matt had wished that he was Zach. No one wishes that they were Zach, as far as I’m concerned. Nick had been complaining about something on his vocab quiz. Just get over it Nick. Mrs. Gill said that all those who did good on the vocab quiz with a 19/19 or above then they get CANDY!!!!!!!!! Michael appears to be in a very interesting mood today, I could not tell you what is wrong with that dear child. The English class has been very wild today so far. Mrs. Gill had been threatening to break up the party, I like parties though. L Some of the students may be enjoying the vocab sheet, but me on the other, I think it is quite boring (no offense Mrs. Gill).

          Mrs. Gill went on with the vocab sheet and then started to talk about how she had problems with the Sophomore class and them getting a hickey. Mrs. Gill had then mentioned something about little children only being able to count to ten because they are not that smart. That is just not nice at all. Now I hear a strange noise, as if it is a noise from the hallway. It almost sounds like a phone. Now I’m not the only one to hear it because other people can hear it too. Mrs. Gill now hears the phone and Nick wants Mrs. Gill to solve the problem. He said if she won’t solve it then he will. Now everyone sounds pretty cool because they are all making the noise of the phone and I think Gina came closest to the noise. As soon as Mrs. Gill goes out to find the phone, Blake can’t spell noun so that tells me that Blake is very dependent on Mrs. Gill for his spelling. Mrs. Gill then came back with the phone and wouldn’t tell the students whose phone it was. I guess that the students will never find out. Mrs. Gill had once again got off topic from the vocabulary and brought up how she taught in a school in the city and this somehow offended Jeffrey. Then she brought up something about OJ Simpson and how her whole class fought about it.

          The phone is ringing now, ITS ALIVE!!!!!!!!!! Nick had then walked over while Mrs. Gill’s back was turned to check the phone. He still couldn’t figure out whose phone it was. Mrs. Gill had then realized that the phone wasn’t a touch screen phone and she said that she was used to a touch screen and stroking her computer. That’s pretty awkward Mrs. Gill. I could see that the students have had such a hard time paying attention to the vocabulary notes because of how interesting today has been so far. On a random, but much needed to know note, I didn’t expect it to rain today, oh well.

          Anyway, looking back at the board Mrs. Gill points out that everything that Matt put on there was wrong, way to go Matt. Mrs. Gill now decides that she wants to teach Latin in an English class. She told us a joke, it went like this: Semper ubi sub ubi. This means, in direct translation, always where underwhere. Now I realize that that is not how you spell underwear but Mrs. Gill the ACC English teacher spelled it that way, so don’t blame me for spelling it wrong. Then of course, the phone rings again and Nick is yelling out that he wants to kill it.

          The students have almost come to an end with the notes. This is good because I am even getting a little bored. I just don’t have the attention span for this. However, I notice that rankle sounds like a funny word. Blake should put money in the cussing jar because he said a bad word (this is just a reminder for you in the future Mrs. Gill, that Blake needs to put money in the cussing jar, in case you forgot.). It just came to my awareness though that the students did not do a journal today, interesting. Michelle now makes a remark that Blake’s face is funny. I, on the other hand do not understand this joke. Some people just don’t have a good sense of humor I guess. The noise in the hallway now begins to increase, signaling that it is about time to go. This will conclude a very interesting day in the ACC English 3 Per. 2 class. As a watchman of this class, I may retire because I have seen enough.

I’m not quite sure what the homework is because it was rubbed off a little on the board. I assume though that we are to read more of the Scarlet Letter and finish the vocabulary notes.

Drew's Phantasmagoric Scribe Notes

November 16, 11

We started class normally when the intercom came to life and told us that the school was entering a code blue. The class sprang to life with interest in what code blue was. Apparently code blue: is a, none medical emergency (manly drug search). We quickly made jokes about them finding stashes and unconventional drug dogs.

There was no Journal today because she is still grading ours. We mentioned Irony and Tone throughout class. We quickly finished our second Scarlet Letter Vocab list. While finishing list Mrs. Gill mentioned that she got dyknowed by another teacher during a meeting. After completion of the list we spent the remainder of class reading the Scarlet letter and quietly chatting.  I was informed that I was the scribe at the last minute as usual.

Mrs. Gill informed us that we were four days behind on scribe notes. Class was extended and we were informed that the Objective for annotating were instances of Irony in Hawthorns writing. Mr. Chio entered the room to hand Mrs. Gill a paper on code blue and everyone wondered why he wasn’t in class. People where quite for most of the reading. Mrs. Gill was wondering why it was so cold. Mrs. Gill asks for help with a problem getting fire fox Blake goes to help after Matt’s helpful suggestion that it should just say download. After a long amount of reading the speakers sparked to life and announced our release but reminded us that we couldn’t use the outside exits

Libby and Kayla's WONDERFUL Scribe Notes from November 16th , 2011

NOVEMBER 16th, 2011

ACC ENGLISH 3 PERIOD 4!!!

The day began as usual Kayla and Libby walked all the way from Algebra 2, to their favorite class ACC English 3!  On the way to class the two friends were talking about what they would do today, when Libby, being the genius that she is, came up with the idea of scribing together! When they entered Mrs. Gill's classroom of awesomeness, Libby and Kayla ran to Mrs Gill and told her of their scheme. Kayla, being the more cynical one, threatened to cause a ruckus in class if Mrs. Gill did not allow them to be the scribes.  Mrs. Gill argued that someone else had the day….but seriously who gets excited for scribing? And Kayla most likely would not have taken no for an answer. Anyway class began with prayer as usual.  Mrs. Gill, our wonderful teacher, thinks that our fish will freeze.  Kayla says we should fasion a quilt for the fish so they don’t get cold.  Sounds like a good idea right? (see we used irony! Extra points?)  Kayla and Libby tried to confuse Mrs. Gill about what time class started…..However she quickly bounced back from her gullibility.  Mrs. Gill spent a long time helping Carlye gather scribe notes on the blog.  When she finished she accused Libby and Kayla of being trouble makers, even though they are obviously just clever students who know their way around.  Carlye and Lauren then read their scribe notes to the class.  Carlye wrote hers as a letter to Santa claiming that the class was good, which Mrs. Gill claimed was irony.  Lauren wrote hers as a diary entry, which got some of us talking about the fall play Alice inWonderland.   Oh no Abby and Hannah are not here! We think they are skipping.   Mrs Gill explained to us that she doesn’t usually read along with the class. She says she fell asleep while reading and dropped her book, not once, not twice, not three times, but count them four times! OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!  Kayla accused Libby of being dramatic….which is true. "Next we recieved our Journals back all with wonderful responses form our lovely teacher Mrs. Gill whom says in Kayla's Journal " We miss you when you decided not to come to class", and responded with "I truely salute you" within the pages of Libby's journal.  Then we began vocab words.  One the sentences said something about an apple bacon cheddar cake….GROSS. (google it…NASTY)  The class grew with a loud roar about the faculties loquacity(causing irony).  Mrs Gill and her daughter say this about people who talk too much.  WWTTM! Meaning “women who talks to much”which is funny because none of the teachers the students named were women……ANYWAY.  Mrs Gill wishes that her favorite class (ACC English 3 period 4) would get excited about starting class not leaving it, so being the good students they are, Kayla and Libby have devised a plan….

The funny thing is that as we asked mrs. Gill for this Job today,   we could sense the fear upon her and the anticipation in her eyes. But hey who wouldn’t anticipate Libby and Kayla =)

November 14, 2011

Dear Diary,

A lot happened today during Mrs. Gill’s ACC English 3 Period 4 English class. In the first two minutes of class, Mrs. Gill asked why there were several people out of their seats at the beginning of class. That also led for her to ask the class why people watch the clock closely at towards the end of class rather than at the beginning of class. After that brief period of discussion, we started class off with the usual prayers, the Hail Mary and the Glory Be. For the month of November, we said another prayer, praying for the souls of the departed. We didn’t journal today because Mrs. Gill was still grading them and insisted that she wanted to read every journal entry. Scribe notes about Friday’s class weren’t read because Carlye, the scribe for Friday, had some difficulties posting her Scribe notes straight to the blog. Instead, Mrs. Gill passed back some quizzes we took a while ago while a song from “Sesame Street” played. She also mentioned how our saint quotes helped us a lot with our grades. Mrs. Gill kept our group vocabulary quizzes and also mentioned that our group members were receiving the same grade. That statement worried a lot of people, especially Libby who was absent the day of the quiz. Also, Mrs. Gill handed out candy to those people who scored a high grade on any of the quizzes that she passed back.

Mrs. Gill mentioned briefly about who Torch would nominate for the “Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy Pageant”. While preparing to send us a Word document for the new set of vocabulary words through DyKnow, Mrs. Gill was thinking about Skyping in Hannah, who was absent today. As I was saying earlier, we received a new and shorter list of vocabulary words for The Scarlet Letter. Kayla asked why she only had one point added to her grade for her saint quote and Mrs. Gill simply responded that she didn’t get it correct. Then, Mrs. Gill went on to tell a story about one of her former students who would always complain about her grade. For the vocabulary words, we finished the first nine or so words and we will finish the rest tomorrow. Our homework is to continue to read The Scarlet Letter and to have the book finished by Monday. That’s all I have for today. Now I have to make sure I don’t miss my cue for the play!

Kate's Scribe Notes: November 10, 2011

For some strange reason, it was very difficult for everyone to focus. Max seemed angry today. Class started with a lot of talking, and Mrs. Gill went right into prayer… most likely to make us quiet down. I was not aware that I was the scribe until half way through class, so basically all I remember is that Cody read his scribe notes, and then we looked at Anne’s, which was in the form of a secret code. After that, we wrote our journal which was titled, “Veterans.” As soon as “Made in America” by Toby Keith played, people started singing along. Surprisingly, a good amount of people read today. Kayla, Anne, Libby, Will, Abby and Tyler all read their journals. Why do I feel like Marc did too? Maybe not…awkward. Sam made two good “points.”

Mrs. Gill showed us the “How-to’s” about the blog and how to post it ourselves. Scribing is now going alphabetically, hence, I’m scribing first… and you can pass if you feel like you are too busy that night, and you will go at the end. Lots of side conversations were happening today. I heard distant singing from the other side of the room, High School Musical maybe? I looked over and saw head-bobbing from Max and Abby. Strange. From the front of the room, I heard that Libby cannot be trusted... Conflict? Confused. I also did not understand why Kayla had a whale drawn on her hand. She has colorful annotations in her Scarlet Letter book. Anyways, we went over the homework and people asked questions. It somehow turned into a discussion over the vocab words “lurid” and “phantasmagoric” which then evolved into a conversation about frosting and whether or not the coloring makes a difference. Sagacity—Abby thinks that you can hide wisdom. I heard Max yelling at Abby…then Marc…. Mrs. Gill says that there always needs to be that person to “tell it how it is.” The class agrees. Class ended with just enough time to take a vocabulary quiz. Homework is to read The Scarlet Letter.

Cody's scribe notes

                English was the first class of the day so we had prayer over the intercom. We then moved onto our journal. The prompt was about John F. Kennedy and the song that was playing was from Hairspray. Joe then read his journal first. He wrote about how Kennedy was from Persia and moved to Texas but it was too cold. So he then moved to Denver to get to a warmer climate and decided to become president. Anne then read her journal next.  She wrote about a lot of facts about Kennedy that she knew form her report on him in eighth grade. Carly read last and she also wrote facts about Kennedy. After this Anne, Tyler, and Frankie all had to read their scribe notes.

 We then went over a document about commas that was later sent to us through dyknow. The document contained ten rules on how to use commas correctly. After going over this, we were given an assignment about commas and it had our vocab words on it to help us for our quiz, which is Thursday. Class then ended.

Michael Klein's Really Good Scribe Notes 11/9/11

           

           ACC English Period 2 began class with a prayer as usual. We were treated to Katrina’s scribe notes, which came in the form of a Twitter account. We then moved onto the journal assignment for the day, which was to write as much as we could about John F. Kennedy. After listening to a rather lengthy musical number from “Hairspray”, our journals were complete. Jeffrey wrote a scathing review of Kennedy’s actions in office, while Megan gave a personal view of Kennedy, adding that she had discovered a conspiracy theory that Rebecca Black’s “Friday” was not simply an innocently bad song, but was truly a dark reference to the Kennedy assassination. Mrs. Gill activated her inner detective and took the class on an investigative trip to a website entitled “Funny or Die”. Utterly convinced by the reliability and trustworthiness of this well-named website, we discovered that there were indeed connections between the song and the assassination. Matt, in total conviction, proclaimed to the class that it must have been Rebecca Black who killed our beloved namesake. I’m not arguing.

Mrs. Gill then found it necessary to post pictures of Blake wearing women’s clothing, some of which were rather scandalous, on the front board. Mike, in his very polite and subtle manner, asked Blake why he had not fully acted out the part and stuck a needle in his stomach. After viewing these photos for a while longer, Matt stated that he would be embarrassed if that was him up on the board. Blake had no response.

After being scarred by these grotesque images, Mrs. Gill then launched into a thrilling discussion on comma usage. She stated that the class had a problem with comma usage and commas like all forms of punctuation are important to our writing skills and we need to learn about them to become educated well-rounded intelligent people and we need to avoid run-on sentences. All the students were simply engrossed by the lecture. Zack showed his interest in the lesson by falling asleep in his desk. Mike showed his enthusiasm by staring at his laptop with his mouth open. I took in the information best by staring at Emily’s shoes. They were very yellow.

When the darn lesson finally- er, I should say-  when all the students reluctantly had to pack up their bags to leave the enthralling comma usage lesson for the next class, we were assigned a comma/vocab exercise for homework. In addition, our journals are due Friday, we are to continue reading The Scarlet Letter, there is a vocab quiz on Thursday, and there is a chapter 9-16 assessment on Friday. Scribe notes - Tyler Price

The ACC English class, period four, started the day with prayer as usual.  Mrs. Gill started out by saying the “Hail Mary” and the class finished the prayer.  Instead of praying the alternate prayer for November, Mrs. Gill recited the “Glory Be” and we finished that prayer also.  The journal today was “ouch” and the class had to write about an experience where they had gotten hurt.  Abby wrote about a fracture.  Kristen wrote about how she was fighting with her brother and her brother broke her nose.  Marc wrote about how he injured his chin.  After Marc finished reading Mrs. Gill talked about how most of the people in her family have had a split chin.  Mrs. Gill called on one more reader, Frankie, and he wrote about how he severely injured his knee.  Conversation then broke out within the classroom while Mrs. Gill was getting everything ready for our next objective.  Max then, out loud, stated something about cutting off heads.

                Mrs. Gill settled the class and explained to us our in-class project with our groups.  The saint quotes could be used on this because it was considered a quiz.  Kayla asked if she could have another quote since hers accidently went through the wash.  Mrs. Gill responded by saying that she had them recorded and they were also on edline.  Max had a random inquiry about how recently we have been given us tests on shortened days; but we have had many of those recently.  Mrs. Gill had thought that even though they weren’t planned that way, it might help people do better under pressure.  Sam commented saying that the writing might be sloppier.  Mrs. Gill then went into a short speech about the topic.

                We then got back on track by getting in our groups.  I could hear small chatter throughout the room, but other than that the room was quiet.  In my group, Hannah and Kayla tried to pronounce the word, “ignominy”.  Mrs. Gill overheard and she clarified they pronunciation of the word.  The class flew by and before we knew it class was over.  The homework was just to read The Scarlet Letter.

Frankie's stuff for Scribe notes

Class actually didn’t start normally. I’m pretty sure we forgot to pray today.

We then started our journal. The journal prompt was “baby dreams” and the song was  “Baby” by Justin Bieber  L

Joe threw his hands up in disgust and possibly anger when the song started

Everyone was “thrilled” about the song choice. So Mrs. Gill tried to make us open up to the song because she felt it was a good song. 

We then had some people share their journal entries:

Joe: his story was about how babies had crazy math skills but forgot them when they learned to talk

Will: his story had a delightful story about a baby being put down for a nap with some video game references thrown in

We then took our saint quote recitation and Mrs. Gill was proud that everyone remembered their saint quotes

We looked over vocab usage on some sample sentences that people had created last Friday

Mrs. Gill put all of the journal prompts on Edline for convenience and she is going to collect our journals on Friday

Our Homework is to continue reading and annotating the Scarlet Letter. We need to be through chapter 16 by Friday.

We will have a “traditional” vocab quiz on Thursday and another summary assessment on Friday

Then class ended so I’m pretty much done talking.

-          Mrs. Gill briefly asked us if we remember our quote or if we completely lost it

-          We got into our previous study groups to work on the vocab quiz which consisted of writing a sentence for a few vocab words Mrs. Gill gave us. Most groups didn’t finish
