The Notes from the Soul

Tim Smith's scribe notes form Wed. 11-2

My name  is Gideon Angel with a soft g. I am the Gaurdian Angel for many of the students in the Period 4 ACC English 3 class of the John F. Kennedy Catholic High School. The day started with prayer over the intercom because it was the first class of the day. Then one of the students, Jake, read his Scribe notes from Monday. Then the teacher asked if the students had had any discussions over the past few days about the book, “The Scarlet Letter”. They then proceeded to their journal assignment, which was named On the Scaffold. They were to write to the song The Girl Who Fell from the Sky by a Japanese artist Hisaishi. They were to write about Hester Prynne’s punishment, why it would be effective and if there is anything like that today. The teacher had to change the date from 2012 to 2011. The people who read their journals were Jake, who wrote about how it was effective because all of the people in the town can see you and you are the center of attention for a crime you committed, and Chris, who wrote about how it was like being pantsed in public and how humiliating it would be to which the teacher proceeded to tell a story about a girl whose locker was outside of her door who began to take her pants off forgetting that she did not have her skirt on over her pants.
They then heard about the teachers All Saints’ Day tradition. She give each student a saint quote and they have to memorize it. On every test/ quiz the teacher will give extra credit. The students proceeded to go to the front of the room to get their quotes and I heard many of them give comments about their quotes because they were long or short. They are to memorize their quotes and recite them on Friday. They also got a piece of candy because Monday was Halloween and they did not have school the day before. One of the students read her quote and said that it made her feel like it was better if she was dead. These quotes are on Edline if any of the students forget/ lose them. Also, the vocab PowerPoint is up there as well. They then looked at the picture of Hester Prynne that was one their journal.
Tomorrow there will be a summary assessment over the first 8 chapters in which they have to trace a theme which is how Hester feels. The teacher will also be checking the annotations the students have been doing.
