·        “Ew Westley is fat now”
·        Here comes the lecture on getting old…
·        Well we are only young once so we better live it up then, right Mrs. Gill?
·        Here come the announcements from P-Mac
·        Time to peace out girl scouts

Keeping Up With Period 6 (Mackenzie's 5-7 Scribe Notes)

Mrs. Gill assigned me scribe notes for today but jokes on her because all I’m thinking about rn is Scotty McCreery

Jack’s scribe notes. As usual they are funny and cute

Jack spells Mere’s name Mer and Kory growls her name. SOS

To my right, Mere, Steve, and Adam chat

To my left, Matt threatens me and tells me not to make fun of him. He hits my laptop and I hit him. #sns

“A picture of Jesus where the snail used to be”

“Gill’s Gold”

10 mins in and Adam and Lucy haven’t started arguing yet??? I’m shocked

Chatter of the southern shadow fills the room. Nina thinks she’s an incoming freshman but it turns out she’s going to be a senior. A for effort

Adam complains about the quiz (typical)

*Adam’s high voice* “Taylor’s a guy.” We learn something new every day

We invite Sam to watch the Great Gatsby with us

Middle of our quiz and romantic music begins to play. G quickly turns it off

Taylor winks in this general direction. Not sure if it was for me or Matt so I ignore and play it cool. Not about to get caught up in a love triangle

Jack breathes. Love him

Jacob says something quietly to Matt. I ask him to repeat and they both say, “Stop.” #oh

Jack is drawing something on the back of his quiz. 70% sure it’s either a picture of me or Jacquelyn

Carrie and Shannon have matching headbands on

Mere concludes that none of our conversations can be scribed because they are either “mean, stupid, or will get us in a lot of trouble.” I don’t disagree

Jacob asks G for Kleenex and she finds a baby wipe and says, “Here, this will be very soft on your nose.” If you say so

1:25 and Shannon is still taking her quiz. “I have a lot to say.”

I look over at Jacob and he holds up a piece of paper with what I assumed to be a love note. Instead it says, “Stop looking at me,” and has a hand drawn with the middle finger flipping me off. THANKS JAKE

Adam says something inaudible and Amelia gives him a pity laugh

Carley is unusually quiet

True Love and Life isn’t Fair are two main themes of the Princess Bride

Westley is dead AF

Lucy thinks Buttercup is reasonable. Mere still thinks Buttercup is a horse so all other opinions are invalid

“Fight fight fight” –Voss

“I’ll cut you” –Matt

Class (mainly Taylor) gets in fight with Lucy but what’s new???

“Actions speak louder than words and he did some serious shit.” Wise words from Voss. Then he starts talking about cereal

G believes in true love. (Scotty?)

Nina and Kory chat about something I can’t hear. Throwback to when G asked if they were dating (they’re cousins G but nice try)

I realized Nina sits in her desk cross legged. How? I can’t even touch my toes

Jack makes eye contact with me. One step closer

Everyone talks at once and I can’t catch anything so I resort to a gossip sesh with Mere

Class ends with G kicking us out

Follow Up: After class, Mere and I finally figure out the Meramec joke, I tell Bianca about the Jacob situation, and she calls him her “spirit animal.”

Carrie's Scribe notes from May 7 period 6

Of course, class starts by me yelling at Lucy because she has a horrible habit of touching my arm to get my attention that drives me insane. It is not necessary to touch me. Announcements come on and no one listens to them as normal. Carly and Matt get called to the office, BYE Carly and Matt. Ugh, there is a quiz today. I hate taking quizzes. Oh wait, we have to listen to Mrs. Gill read Jack’s scribe note first, good a delay of the impending quiz. Mrs. Gill is trying to gets Jacks attention to get his scribe notes but instead gets the attention of Jacquelyn. By the way, I will continue to call Mrs. Gill by her name instead of G because I refuse to conform to the rest of the class. We then discuss the fact that Jack does not know how to spell Mere and the fact that Lucy has finished the book along with all the journals. **COUGH COUGH nerd COUGH COUGH** Oh look, Carly and Matt have returned from their quest to the office. Good thing they haven’t missed much. Alex is accused of being a traitor by Jacob because of the fact that he left for fourth quarter freshman year. Jacob, wouldn’t take make you a traitor to Parkway North since you transferred to Kennedy? Jack Peiphoff, it was a snail not a fish that was kept on the table where Jesus now is. After being informed of this, Jack offers to buy Mrs. Gill a fish. Mrs. Gill responds that she would like a large fish take filled with lots of green and gold fish. Adam tries to make a joke about Mrs. Gill’s name and the fact that fish have gills but he had to explain the joke and it was no longer funny. Jacob and Alex talk about the fact that Alex can lie on The Princess Bride and absorb all the information. Mrs. Gill tells us that she redid the quiz before class to make it about theme and symbolism. I feel like she redoes the quizzes a lot. Adam complains about the fact that we have never discussed the book as a class and that we shouldn’t have to come up with the themes and symbolism without help. Kory makes a smartass comment that the symbolism always stands for the holocaust. Haha funny, Kory. Mrs. Gill makes fun of us complaining and said that she would not have a class discussion when everyone complains about the book and refuses to read the book. It was stated that she was only making fun of the guys because of her tone of voice. Taylor then responds with the fact that she does the exact same thing and Adam replies with “Taylor is a guy” in a really weird voice that I don’t really know how to put into writing. Lucy starts to sing some song I have never heard of before as quizzes are starting to be passed out. I glare at her and threaten to slit her throat if she didn’t shut up. Mrs. Gill finishes passing out the quizzes. I hate quizzes over themes. Maybe if I don’t write about Westley’s death, maybe he won’t actually be dead. I hate authors that kill off main or important characters, well except for Gatsby, he deserved to die. During the quiz, Mrs. Gill starts playing “Time after Time” which was really random. I finish my quiz, and start up my scribe notes again. Being the scribe during a quiz is really awkward because no one is talking and all I can hear is the sound of my keyboard and I feel like I am just people watching. Mrs. Gill offers Jacob a baby wipe since she doesn’t have any tissues. He rudely declines the offer of a baby wipe. Honestly, the baby wipe couldn’t have been that bad and it is surely better than nothing. Mrs. Gill tells us that the two themes of the book are the fact that life isn’t fair and true love. Oops. Missed the true love on my quiz. Oh well. Jacob calls Mack stupid which is not very nice. She may have stupid questions but that doesn’t make her stupid. The class all agreed, well except for Lucy but is that different than normal. That Buttercup did betray Westley outside of the Fire Swamp. Lucy once again tells Alex to shut up. If people stop telling Alex to shut up, he might be able to stay awake and actually contribute to class. Taylor voices her opinion against Lucy, when no one else will, that she would rather die with her true love than live a sad life. In the corner of my eye, I see Mack pick up her laptop and threaten to kill Matt with it. Mrs. Gill says something about the fact that the escape from the Fire Swamp taught Buttercup to trust Westley. We then go into the fact that Westley was abusive and I was super confused when Westley was abusive. Someone, I don’t remember who, asked when he was abusive and Mrs. Gill answers with when he was the man in black. Thank you to whoever asked that question. We then discuss the fact that Inigo and Fezzik are the power couple of the book. Almost everyone agrees that they were a better couple then Westley and Buttercup, well except for Adam who sat with his head inside his shirt during the discussion. We start talking about true love as Adam pulls his head out of his shirt. Lucy said and I quote “True love is only valuable if it makes you happy. If it doesn’t work out, who cares you should ditch him and start a business.” Mrs. Gill is telling us to leave since none of us knows when class is over. I guess I’ll go to physics and work on a Lab that I don’t know how to do.

Sarah's May 1 period 1 scribe notes

What Mama Genre Wanted to Happen Today:
For us to read pages 97 – 218 in The Princess Bride. We would read through last night’s scribe notes and then after that was over we would happily get out our books and read the pages that were required to read or to silently work on our journals. Mama Genre wanted to have a nothing but productive class full of students learning who actually the man in black is and the adventures that he has with the princess.

What Actually Happened:
Class began with a discussion of Jake Holtz and the drama revolving around those details. We found out that Lindsay and the rest of the school is a “bully” for calling Slim, Slim. Then I found out that we got our Physics quizzes back. Crap.

Then the discussion steered towards the thousandth joke about drug testing and Breathalyers (2/2 whaddup). Someone says “lets drug test her for being drunk”. Interesting. TKM (total Kennedy move).

Scribe notes are starting to be read (P.S. Erin I didn’t think our eye contact was awkward). Annette Kilian (did I spell it correctly?) complains about comic sans. And of course, Shelley disagrees and LOVES comic sans. TSM.

Now Bridget is talking about cheap nail polish? And she looks really lost without Erin next to her.

Will starts throwing a glasses case and Megan claims it as her own. Ben still hasn’t said a word this whole semester. With the exception of his debate and when he’s talking to Chris. So just kidding Ben talks all the time.

Mary Cannon makes a surprise entrance. She starts screaming about name dropping and makes quite a scene.  Gotta love Mary.

Alyssa looks like she is in desperate need of a cigarette to feed her smoker’s cough.

Will randomly brings up string cheese to me? I still don’t know what he was talking about.

Everyone is talking right now and I honestly don’t know about what, nor do I care enough to try and find out.

Lindsay complains about how Mrs. Gill  Mama G ignores her. And Shelley looks offended as Mama G accuses her of not doing work. Once again TSM.

BEN IS ACTUALLY TALKING.

Jack Piephoff gets busted reading The Princess Bride in another class. Megan spoils the book for the room. Bianca gets pretty pissed about this. I’m surprised she didn’t say “aw pickles”.

Now we are instructed to read the book. About five minutes in I notice Abby isn’t even holding the book the right way.

Will decides to get something out of the middle of the circle, Mama G gets a little annoyed with him but he hits his head. Karma.

Quote of the year: “That was the moment in my career that I was willing to hurt a student for the sake of a laugh”. Thanks mama G.

Plot twist. Bridget doesn’t read at all. She just looks at her nails the whole time.

Alyssa is playing with someone’s glasses. Welcome to high school Alyssa.

Megan starts to use her book as a baseball bat. Creative. All while Chris is staring at the clock. As usual, god only knows what Shelley is doing.

Plot Twist. Apparently the man in black is Will Smith.

Shelley isn’t doing English at all, she’s doing Torch. Which is something that she can’t complain about so that’s good.

Just kidding Shelley is making exasperated hand motions at her computer.

I’m pretty sure Chris just ordered pizza.

A few people are reading.

Abby isn’t even remotely looking at her book.

If I had a dollar for every time I made semi-uncomfortable eye contact during this scribe-sesh… I’d have about six dollars. Ben I promise I’m not stalking you.

I’m pretty sure Abby fell asleep.

Will brags about how he is beating Annette because he is farther in the book than her. She responds with “Shut up, Will”.

Someone has her phone out. Really discrete.

13 minutes till lunch.

Courtney comes in and asks “What did I miss”. Mrs. Gill responds “nothing”. I chose a horrible day to scribe.

Wait why did Courtney choose to sit alone?

Bujnak hasn’t moved all class period.

Abby is now decorating her book mark. Abby the amount you stare at the clock doesn’t make it move faster.

6 minutes till lunch.

Even Mrs. Gill looks bored.

I think Abby has procrastinated more than Chris today. At least Chris ordered food.

Lindsay packed up 2 minutes early. Everyone is shutting their books. And off to lunch we go.

Amelia's Scribe notes period 6 5/1

I walk into class and I see Buttercup talking to Mrs. Gill. She seems to be trying to say something, but she is ignored by G when the rest of the class comes into the classroom. Buttercup and the rest of us take our seats. Since I was saved from doing scribe notes yesterday (thank you Alex), G choses me to scribe today. Guess that means I will get nothing done but people watching today. As I think that, I hear Buttercup once again try to talk, but G talks over saying specifically that scribe note should not just be people watching…oops. In a debate between G and Steven, we learn that scribe notes are APPARENTLY supposed to focus on the academic purpose of the class…hope these do well.
After basically pushing Buttercup to the side of the classroom, G opens Alex’s scribe notes. Reading the notes takes longer than usual to begin with because Mrs. Gill has to correct them several times and then have a debate over whether or not one can disagree with a statement that says “I love this class.”
Buttercup is still being ignored. She’s hiding in a corner of the classroom.
Next we read Megan’s scribe notes which G has to explain are very representative of the strange strange other class. Megan’s notes bring up the topics of swallowing fish at prom (nobody did that right?!) and also Chris’s eyebrow, which apparently is a very discriminated against facial expression of his. This whole time, Jack has been messing with his Kindle.
Mrs. Gill finally calls Buttercup back to the circle as people get their books out. Buttercup starts to share her story but is once again ignored as The Princess Bride lunch and movie day are discussed. G is going to bring lemon brownies (which are really lemon squares) that she found a recipe for one pin-ter-rest, whatever that is. During this LEMON SQUARE discussion Mackenzie happens to find a picture of her beloved Scotty on Google and strokes the screen while showing me. Kory does the same with a picture of some girl from Wolf of Wall Street.
Finally it is silent and as books are opened, Buttercup is back in her chair telling her story. She quickly hushed as Jack announces that his book is broken because he dropped it and Taylor tries to tell me something but all I hear is “St. Clare.” Then Jacob checks powerschool and the ole’ powerschool debate begins. Mrs. Gill really seems to be ignoring Buttercup now.
Reading and scribing is hard, good thing we’re still ignoring Buttercup. There’s a bit more silence until G takes Kory’s laptop and places it in the middle of the circle, maybe he’ll read now. Nope. He’s playing with his broken finger again.
It’s a bit more quiet now and Buttercup may actually get to tell her story. Once again, she is hushed as Taylor says she’s had her fill of Mr. McQueary.
“I’ve had my fill of mcQueary. Oh fill reminds me of filling which reminds me of Twinkies.” –Taylor
After some discussion on the rules of fashion led by Jacob, the class has fallen silent and Buttercup has started talking again. She seems annoyed though as Alex seems to be pulling a Tim Bufka and Mackenzie is just giggling. I try to listen to Buttercup’s story but she just seems a little strange. She can hear the people talking even when she’s underwater? She thinks she can swim to safety? Maybe she should go talk to Mrs. Strohmeyer or the swim coach. By this point it is obvious that Alex is pulling a Tim. Buttercup is really getting to tell her story now that the class is all paying attention to her. She seems somewhat dumb because the Cliffs of Insanity that she explains totally sound like normal cliffs, but oh well. She even gets to the first of many, “inconceivable!’s.” I hope I can continue listening to her and scribing, the story seems to be getting really good.
That silence didn’t last long. Buttercup’s story is interrupted by a weird screaming down the hall. We have a class vote, G thinks it’s Ms. Moore, the class think’s it’s Sam Stewart. The noise happens again and Kory calls back. It’s their mating call. He’s trying to mate with Sam.

After that, Buttercup is pretty much sent back to her corner. There’s no way the class will listen to her anymore. G randomly disappears and the girl that used to think chapstick was toxic puts her book on her head. I notice from across the class that Carrie sits in a very strange way. She has her legs crossed but the ankle bone of the one that is not over her knee is like touching the floor. I try. Ouch, that’s not human. All hopes of getting back into Buttercup’s story are gone as Nina begins to stress about AP Psychology. She tells me the grade are up from the quiz yesterday….MUST. CHECK. POWERSCHOOL. Alright, these are extremely long but to sum up the class, we ignored Buttercup, listened to her for a little, and then Mrs. Gill returned Kory’s computer and we all left. BYE.
