Sra.
*Lauren Corley’s Scribe
Notes (English translation)
Today, October
6, 2011, Mrs. Gill’s period 4 ACC English 3 class was the first period of the
day. Instead of starting class with the usual “Hail Mary” and “Glory Be”,
prayer was said over the loudspeaker. Classes were only thirty-seven minutes
long because it was a Club Day. Emily Melz read her Scribe Notes about
yesterday’s class, which was in the form of a crossword puzzle. Mrs. Gill hands
out a flyer for the showing of The
Crucible for extra credit on Sunday, October 9. Originally the time was set
for six in the evening but was switched to three in the afternoon due to
conflict with play practice which starts at six. The extra credit is for
Juniors in English 3 and ACC English 3 and is worth about ten to twenty-five
extra credit points. The film will be shown in the Media Center and popcorn and
soda will be provided. No journals were done today because The Crucible is still being read. For a few days, Mrs. Gill wanted
to know how to say “roll” in Spanish in order to say “that’s how we roll” in
Spanish. Marc figured out the Spanish word for “roll” which is “rodar”. Mrs.
Gill collects our reaction papers for Act III through DyKnow and tells us to
make sure that we send the right document. If not, we won’t be able to e-mail
the right document.
Mrs. Gill mentions that I’m the scribe today. Abby cheers
and wants me to mention her in my Scribe Notes. We start reading Act IV of The Crucible and Mrs. Gill assigns the
parts. First, Joe was assigned the role of Reverend Parris, which he’s told that
his character is crazy; Tyler was assigned the role of John Proctor, Abby read
for the role of Rebecca Nurse, Kristen read for the role of Tituba, Maddie R.
read Sarah Good, who was told her character is drunk and possibly pregnant;
Will read Herrick, Frankie read Danforth, which he’s told is a more serious
character; Jake read Hopkins, Chris read Hathorne, Max read Reverend Hale, Marc
read Cheever, and Kayla read Elizabeth Proctor.
Act IV takes place in Salem in a jail cell where everyone
arrested and questioned for witchcraft are being held. Two of those being held
are Sarah Good and Tituba. They mention how the Devil is going to take them
back to Barbados. It was discovered that Abigail and Mercy Lewis have
disappeared and might be on a ship. John Proctor is also being held in the jail
and is set to be hanged. A lot of the people in the story were trying to keep
their reputations. One of those characters is Reverend Parris. As discovered in
the first act, Parris is more concerned about keeping his reputation intact and
about his fear of a riot breaking out and his fear of being run out of Salem
more than the well-being of his daughter, Betty. After a discussion about
people who were tried for witchcraft, another ACC English 3 period 4 class came
to an end.
There is no homework for tomorrow!

Emily Thorn's scribe notes
The Notes of the Scribe
By Emily T. of Period 4
On October third,
That fateful day,
Class started a little late
And the Hail Mary we did pray.
Dear Mrs. Fant,
Our school librarian,
Showed us some books
That she was carryin’
The first book was about a girl
And her hoarder of a mother
The girl had duties she shouldn’t have
And it said Dirty Little Secrets on the cover
My Forbidden Face is about a teenage girl
And her life once the Taliban took over
Women were treated very unfairly
And their faces they had to cover.
If you like science fiction
And stories that are quick
Then I say that Life on Mars
Is a book that you should pick.
There were two sisters
Who loved to be in water
Then a mystery happened to them
In the book The Properties of Water.
A teenage girl committed suicide
In the book Thirteen Reasons Why
On thirteen cassette tapes she left her reasons
And mailed them to those who made her want to die.
Shoeless Joe is about just that man
And the scandal of the White Sox.
If you liked the movie Field of Dreams
You’ll probably think this book rocks.
In Hidden, two five year old girls met
When one of their cars was stolen.
Eleven years later they met again
At a summer camp where they were both going.
Every day a girl wakes up
And loses her memory of the previous day.
In this book that is called Forgotten,
She has only her daily notes to guide her way.
In the book I’ll Be There
Two brothers struggle together
Until they decide they’ve had enough
Of being raised by their abusive father.
In a new book entitled Delirium
Love is considered a serious epidemic.
At age eighteen this emotion is removed
But one teenager decides she’d rather keep it.
A Jewish boy became successful at boxing
As his German looks gave him a cover.
Until, in The Berlin Boxing Club
His religious secret was discovered.
Four books make up this series
Called Incredibly Disgusting Food.
We can read these to see how what we eat
Affects our health and mood.
Mrs. Fant left us to do our things
And we all started to talk and speak
Max let out a rather odd noise
When Hannah touched his cheek.
Afterwards Mark and Abby walked inside
To act out the deleted Crucible scene.
Abby played an unhinged Abigail
And Mark pushed her to the ground; how mean!
We had nothing else to do then
So we all had some free time to pass.
Do not forget that the Act 2 reaction paper
Is due tomorrow at the beginning of class.

Book Summary:
It is October 3, 2011 and period two is the second class of the day. The students file in like any other day and class soon begins. Today the scribe is unknown and it quickly becomes apparent that many people had not signed up for a day. After most of the class signed the sheet, today was still untouched. Gina being nice took today and Mrs. Gill seemed pleased. Soon the class started to pray and it was realized that Nick was absent because the prayer could hardly be heard. Joseph Rogers then got up to read his scribe notes which he promptly prepared in a wordle format. The class then moved on to talking about a reaction paper that would be due tomorrow over Act II. Next it was Mrs. Fant’s turn to talk about many new books added to the library. After Mrs. Gill pointed out that three new fished had been added to the class tank. With worried faces the class wondered how long those fish had to live. At last period two moved on to the “deleted scene” which Blake and Michael gladly acted out. The class was wrapped up and everyone left sadly because they knew it would be a whole day until they could once again be in ACC English 3 period two.
