Max's Scribe Notes Assignment

Max Nutter

Mrs. Laurie Gill

ACC English 3—Period 4

9/7/2011

Mrs. Gill’s ACC English 3 class began during period 4 just like any other; although I had left the room to quench my sudden thirst, my sources report that we started off with the usual prayer. Libby was called to display her scribe notes from the previous day which she did so with just the right amount of soft-voiced excitement. Mrs. Gill took a few minutes to point out her concern for the grades she would soon be giving to students based upon their scribing and touched upon the grading process which includes accuracy, creativity and presentation. Much to my dismay, I knew that Emily had set the standard relatively high when it came to creativity because of her commendable scribe notes in the form of in-depth and well-drawn pictures. However, I was not given as much time to worry as I normally would because the class was promptly divided into its various groups to work on their American values projects. I quickly became absorbed in my personal duty as a member of the group whose focus was on the value of equality; while I had regrettably been sick with some sort of God-forsaken stomach ailment, my partners (Marc, Sam and Abby) had appointed me to produce a top-notch PowerPoint. Realizing that it was our final day to focus on these values projects, my group separated the remaining workload into the information each of us still needed to gather as part of our presentation today. I worked vigorously while, at the same time, eavesdropping on a group nearby—composed of Katy, Will, Kristen and Emily—as they expressed their concern to Mrs. Gill about the legitimacy of using Harry Potter in some shape or form as part their values project focused upon pleasure and also discussing Mrs. Gill’s role as a teacher in her students’ lives. I noted the enjoyment I experience whenever I received the chance to play Pokémon, to which Maddie made her jealousy quite evident. In the end, it was a successful work day for Mrs. Gill’s ACC English 3 class during period 4 and this will surely be evident in our presentations today.

Kelly O’Brien’s Scribe Notes for September 6, Period 2

v  Class began with prayer and announcements.
v  After that we talked about where we would go if there were ever a fire.
v  Matt then read his scribe notes from Friday. His notes mention Nick, and Nick began to wonder if there are any scribe notes he’s not in.
v  Mrs. Gill told us that once again a fish died. This leaves us with one survivor, but my guess is that by the end of the week we will have no class pet.
v  While correcting Matt’s scribe notes, Mrs. Gill saw that he sent them from McDonald’s.
v  No journal today
v  We talk about peer editing for a little while and then discuss our group project.
v  Mrs. Gill asked us if we wanted to do our presentations tomorrow or Thursday. Of course, we all said Thursday.
v  We then break up into our groups
v  I didn’t want to end my scribe notes there because I thought it would be too short, so here are some things that happened while we were in our groups.
o   Once again Nick proves to be an interesting group partner. He mentioned LA Noir, guys beating girls, and how people should burn the world.
o   Nick and Drew tried to catch some flying bug.
o   “You know what pleasures me? Police brutality on cops.” – Jeffrey
o    I heard something about spider sense behind me and turned around to see Blake and Michael Kohlberg talking about it.
o   Mrs. Gill asks about Michael Klein’s blind date. Michael jokes that the date was with Jeffrey and Mrs. Gill asks him if he’s serious. He wasn’t, it was actually with Brooke Miller.
v  It’s almost time to go so people pack up and Mrs. Gill says how she hates it when people line up at the door.
That’s it for Period 2 class on September 6.
Homework: Presentations are on Thursday. Journals due tomorrow.

Today was a very unusual day…..and by unusual I mean nothing happened.

-We started with prayer as usual

-Tyler read his scribe notes to the class

-Mrs Gill collected our journals so we did not journal today

-Someone didn’t turn in their edited memoir in! :o

-We worked in our groups on our American values project

-Kayla and I complained about our computers because they are awful and don’t work

-then we left L

-oh and we did NOT lose any fish today! YAY!

Tyler Price's Scribe Notes for Sept. 2, Period 4

·         Mrs. Gill started class with a prayer, like always

·         She addressed the class that our Journals were going to be handed in on Tuesday

·         Marc interrupted her asking for sticky note

·         She gladly gave him a pink one

·         Journal: Dear Mrs. Gill (reflection on what we have done and our reaction journaling and telling her whatever else we wanted)

·         Song: by Avenged Sevenfold—Dear God

·         Mrs. Gill said no one is going to read their journal today

·         Mrs. Gill started talking about SLU 1818 registration and that we have to have higher than a 3.0 gpa

·         Then she talked about how SLU doesn’t talk to our parents because they don’t exist.

·         Mrs. Gill then put us in our editing groups for our Literacy Memoir

·         Before we got into our editing groups, Mrs. Gill pulled up scribe notes and Abby read her scribe notes

·         Then we talked about Frankie’s “cool superpower”  Mrs. Gill asked if anyone thought Frankie’s power was cool and Max raised his hand in agreement

·         Mrs. Gill corrected Abby’s spelling the word “literacy”

·         Mrs. Gill pulled up the directions for peer editing because she doesn’t like the way people usually edit, which is reading the paper and saying all it is correct.

o   Read the paper

o   Find the strength and weaknesses of the paper

o   Identify errors which she called heinous (which is strikingly bad)

o   Want to ask ourselves if it is a good sentence—Mrs. Gill said  short sentences can be good

·         Read the paper one more time—her code is circle things that you hate and underline the cool words—for our education

·         We are responsible for our editing

·         Then Mrs. Gill dismissed Hannah to fix her problem

·         We all worked on editing each other’s papers

·         Class was dismissed even though Mrs. Gill thought we still had four minutes left (She is still getting used to the schedule)

Finalized scribe notes by Matthew Parasch

Today in class we had a very normal day in English period 2 for once.  This is everything that happened today:

-          We opened with a prayer as usual

-          Mrs. Gill told the class about the college credit course and how to join it

-          Gina then read her scribe to the class from yesterday

-          Mrs. Gill joked about Nick having a big mouth in class by showing us a collage of words she created

-          Mrs. Gill tells us that she feels like a leper because no one wants to sit in the front of the room by her

-          Our Journal prompt today was “Dear Mrs. Gill” and the song we listened to while writing was “Dear God”….. Coincidence? I think not.

-          Nick claims that the song was his choice for the second time this week but I’m not buying into it

-          We then begin our class assignment which was a peer evaluation on each other’s Literacy Memoirs

-          She then begins to assign our groups for the peer evaluation and I am praying that I don’t get grouped with a creep

-          And of course with my bad luck, I end up in a group with Blake…

Today was a strange day in English period 2 because we had no outbursts from Nick, no unintentional inappropriate comments from Mrs. Gill, and no dead fish.  I think this has been the most normal day so far.

Gina's period 2 scribe notes

Today was a pretty normal day. We first prayed as usual, and then Annie read her very well written scribe notes. Her notes were from the perspective of a pen named Phil. I personally have never known a pen with a name, but weirder things have happened. After listening to Annie’s extremely detailed notes we got out our journals. Today’s journal was entitled cool. We were supposed to write about a cool super power that we had accidently gotten. The scenario about the St. Charles County militia exploding some kind of nuclear weapon on 141 was the reasoning behind obtaining our super powers. This scenario sparked something in Nick’s head. He believed that this exact same thing happened on a TV show called Lost. Nick has been obsessing about this show for about a week now so it is no surprise that he would bring it up yet again. After this amazing comment by Nick we then proceeded to talk about the difference between cool and lame. According to Mrs. Gill some people picked some pretty lame super powers and she wanted them to be cool so she made sure she emphasized that to the whole class. We listened to the song Superman as we franticly wrote down our journals. Many people read today. Matt was the first to go and he talked about his ability to control time. He contemplated the advantages and disadvantages throughout his journal. Mrs. Gill was impressed with his choice because she thought that his was going to be one of those lame powers. After Matt was Emily who talked about her ability to bring people back to life. She told an intense story about how she had to bring lots of people back to life including herself. Mrs. Gill then killed this intenseness by asking if it worked on fish (almost all of our fish have died; Mrs. Gill blames it on the room). Kristen was next and she talked about her super strength and how it helped her to save Michelle. Mrs. Gill followed up Kristen’s journal with an anecdote about her daughter and how small her arms are. She says that at some points her daughter cannot open doors. I didn’t know how to respond to this story. We then all had a good laugh when Mrs. Gill mistakenly heard Nick. She thought he asked if his super power could relate back to his hormones, when he really asked if it could relate to his previous journal entry. Michael Kohlberg was next with his ability to put tape on the end of shoestrings. I honestly I had no idea what to think of this, but he believed it was better than super strength. Kara was the last to go. She talked about her ability to control the four elements and how she would use this to get revenge on the St. Charles County Militia. After this we somehow got on the topic of which we be a better way to die, freezing or burning. This was big controversy and it seemed to cause many conversations off the topic of English. During this time we heard sheep noises coming from the right corner of the room. I still do not know why. Finally we were back on topic. Mrs. Gill talked about the evaluation of the memoir and she described what she meant by each point (during this time some weird things were happening in the hallway). At last we got in to our groups. We worked in our groups until it was time to leave. This concludes the ACC English 3 class for the first of September.
