Discussion Question: Matthew Parasch

In "a Wagner Matinee" Clark's aunt begins to break down during the performance.  Give an explanation for this.  Do you think it was because she forgot how much she loved music or does she feel like she threw music out of her life for thirty years and is now regretting it.

Clark's Aunt breaks down at the theater because she sees all the things she gave up for her hard life in Nebraska. She sees the life she used to live of ease, the life she gave up to work on a stinky farm in Nebraska. She cries and breaks down because she gave up music for thirty years. She regrets her naive decision and wants to be able to love music again.

I think that the reason that she breaks down is because she both loves music and becasue she regrets throwing it out of her life. She was reminded about how much she loves music and she also realizes that the way she changed her life was a mistake.

I think that Clark's aunt breaks down during the performance because she remembered how much she loved music and she felt like she threw her life away. The concert brought back her passion for music and it made her sad that she no longer could teach it. I think that she also realized that she had made a mistake by running away and getting married just to end up living on a boring farm.

Clark's aunt begins to break down during the performance becuase she starts to realize everything she has lost from moving to Nebraska. I think the performance brings back her memories about music making her regret throwing music of her life thirty years ago. She also began to realize that this major change in her life may be a mistake. - blake grojean
