Kara N's Discussion Question

What details about Mrs. Sommers's earlier life might help explain the motivation for her shopping spree?

In the short story “Silk Stockings” it describes as though Mrs. Sommer’s had a hard life. The story made it clear that she was supporting the children all on her own. When Mrs. Sommer’s found the fifteen dollars, right away she was thinking of how to spend it on her kids, which it sounded like what she had done all of her life. Mrs. Sommer’s probably thought that she needed to buy something for herself for once, which I believe is true. She had dedicated her life to her children and this was the one thing she could do for herself.
