Jennifer Kraemer' Discussion Question

In the story “Leader of The People” how do you think you would react if you were in Jody’s place? Having a Grandfather that continually tells the same stories of his past, do you think you would react with patience, interest, annoyance? How would you deal with the situation? Would you be more like Jody, Carl, Mrs. Tiflin or Billy?

I think if i were Jody i would love seeing my grandfather. It is usually interesting to hear those kind of stories, but after a while I can see how it would become annoying.

I actually have a grandfather who continues to tell the same stories but i just have patience with him because i know that they were big events in his life. I like hearing stories because no matter how many times the story is told something new comes out everytime. I would definately be like Jody in this situation. -Kayla Swanson

I think at first it would be really interesting to hear my grandfather tell me stories of his past. It definitely would get annoying because there is no variation. Despite the fact that it would get annoying, I think it would be best to just suck it up because he is my grandfather and I would cherish those moments.

If I had a grandfather like Jody's, I'd probably get a little annoyed and bored from time to time, but I'd be polite and not let my irritation show. His sotries would be interesting to hear, but if I heard them over and over I'd get a little sick of them. I know that older people don't always have the best memory, so I'd just deal with the fact that this is how my grandfather is. I'd do my best to be patient with him.

Abby Primo- I have many grandparents like Jody’s grandfather. The way I deal with it is that I listen to them and whenever I get tired of listening to them tell me the same thing over and over, I politely excuse myself. I act with patience (at least I believe I do). I would not react as harshly as Carl did towards grandfather because I want to respect my elders. I also lose my patience though after a while because it is annoying hearing the same thing over and over again. That is when I excuse myself from the room for about twenty minutes, come back, and hear the same thing again.
